The Polish National Catholic Church traces it beginnings as a
Christian denomination to 1897, when St. Stanislaus Bishop &
Martyr Parish was organized in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The
first General Synod of the Polish National Catholic Church held in
September, 1904, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The first Bishop,
Francis Hodur, was consecrated by Dutch Old Catholic Bishops in
Utrecht, Holland, in 1907, providing the church with apostolic
succession.
Beliefs of the church include that God is one in three divine
persons: the Father, who created it all; the Son, who died for our
sins and rose from the dead; the Holy Spirit, who regenerates and
sanctifies souls. The sin of the "first parents" does not
pass to succeeding generations. Jesus Christ became man and
died on the cross for our salvation. The Church is made up of
baptized Christians who worship together, partake of the
sacraments, hear and obey the Word of God. Church property is
owned by the Parishes. Since 1921, bishops and priests have
been permitted to marry.
Today, the PNCC has 25,000 members in the United States.
Services are held in English, Polish, and Spanish. There are
no PNCC parishes in Oklahoma.
